Thursday Score Posting required

Scott Hernke 2026-06-25
It has come to my attention that we have some score posting issues within the club. While the problem is not rampant or widespread, it is a problem nonetheless.

Scores must be posted on the same day of play, by midnight. The reasons for this are many. I’ll begin with the most obvious and relevant. If your scores are not posted the same day by midnight (the time when the USGA updates your handicap on a daily basis), your handicap that following day will not be updated and hence, may be incorrect and invalid for competitive play. You MUST post your scores the same day.

The NMGC requires hole-by-hole score posting for a number of reasons, not the least of which is so that beer skins can be awarded. OK, that’s not really the number one reason, but it is of importance for that process. It also guarantees that scores are entered correctly, as the system automatically imposes equitable stroke control (ESC), guaranteeing that higher than allowed individual hole scores are correctly entered.

Of great importance to the club, and in particular to Naga-Waukee, is the fact that our treasurer, Joe Van Beck, does a cross-check of, a) scores posted to the WSGA/USGA, and b) the sheet at the clubhouse desk where we all check-in before golf. This guarantees that we are paying the correct amount to the golf course. Yes, your timely entry of your scores is vital to the finances of both the club and the golf course.

For those of you who are occasionally not entering scores, or perhaps not entering scores at all, I would posit that your handicap is not valid. Participation in club events or tournaments requires a valid handicap. Those who habitually fail to post scores could be forfeited out of tournaments or not be allowed to compete for prizes in our outings or for other awards, such as beer skins. I would suggest that in the future, those who habitually do not post scores would possibly not be permitted to participate in the Men’s Club at all. Please post your scores to avoid this situation.

Scores can be posted from your home computer, your smart phone, or the kiosk in the Nag clubhouse. Problems with score posting at the kiosk are being investigated and we are trying to resolve them for easier posting. If you need help with score posting, please reach out to any club officer or committee chairman, or ask for assistance at the clubhouse desk.

Timely posting of scores is important on many levels. Please make sure that you are posting, and posting on time.
